Charities

Every year at our annual supper, a collection is made after the interval for deserving and just causes. The amount raised and for whom is detailed below. Thanks to all who donated, it is much appreciated by the club, committee and those who recieve the funds.

Since the year 2000, GBC has raised and donated, through these collections, a total of £15,675.91 to various deserving charities.

In Summer 2024, Stuart and Kevin, two of the band that entertain us every year at the supper had an idea to run an event for the Beatson Cancer Charity, based at the western hospital in Glasgow. Having never organised an event such as this, they asked if the GBC Committee would take on the role of “Logistical concert organiser”

After a few meetings to focus on what was needed and how to go about it, an event was staged on the 2nd November 2024.

with a little over one hundred people attending, a great evening was provided with the four musicians from the band, Scott, Ian and the aforementioned Stuart & Kevin;  bar and nibbles was organised staffed by volunteers, legal requirements re licensing act was undertaken by the club secretary, Peter Scott and the whole committee pulled out all the stops for the donations of both raffle and auction prizes.

The net effect of everyones amazing generosity and hard work was that on 11th January 2025, a Cheque was presented to the Beatson Cancer Charity for  £8656.54 by Kevin, Stuart, Scott and Ian.

Many thanks to everyone involved in this remarkable event.

If we add this outstanding total to our running total since the millennium, the clubs involvement has generated £24,332.45 for so many worthy causes, for which we thank the club and its supporters. We could not have done this without you.
